American aid involving new clothing provided to local children at St Helen Catholic church in Karşıyaka, part of the Marshall Aid programme for Turkey that ran between 1947-53. During those years when Padre Francesco was the priest, there were no Levantine children who were missing any basic needs, but fresh clothing was also welcomed by Levantine children as well. The children in the picture in all likelihood do not belong to the congregation, they were probably brought to church by Mme. Nunzia who loved to offer her help where it was needed. - information courtesy of Bianca Deportu.
