An old Book of Common Prayer from the Anglican Church, Smyrna (at the time within the Consulate building in Punta), and the family genealogical entry from the mid 18th century, held at the Manuscripts Section of Lambeth Palace Library, London. From the book ‘A history of the Levant Company - A.C. Woods, 1935’, we see on page 255, Samuel Crawley was the Consul of Smyrna (at the time they were appointed by the Levant Company) during 1742-62 (as can be seen above when he died aged 57). The bride, Mary Dunant is possibly a relation of Isaac Dunant, a British diplomat in Constantinople at the time as revealed in the book by Andrew C. Thompson. The other surnames referred as Godmothers: Lee, Goy, carried on in the Levant well into the 19th century.
