The photo was the 60th wedding anniversary (married 1887, photo is from 28 April 1947, Istanbul) of her great-grandparents, Frederick Edwin and Adelaide (known in the family as Lily, nee La Fontaine) Whittall and it shows a number of their children, their wives, their children’s children and wives, and Pat Binns and Betty Whittall, who were the great-grand-daughters.

A view of not of Çeşme as stated but the nearby resort of Ilica, where the La Fontaine family, as with many Izmir Levantines owned a summer house, where many happy summers were spent. The house on the left, nearest was the Verbeke house, neighbouring one the Whitall houses, the prominent house in the middle was owned by the La Fontaine family and later by the third president of Turkey (1950s), Celal Bayar.
