The Dr. E. Hayri Üstündağ Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Hastanesi whose web site gives information on the history of the buildings. The land on which these buildings used to stand used to be part of the British Crimean War Cemetery and when this cemetery was cleared of human remains the British Consulate gave the land to the local authorities with the condition that a hospital be built there (dates don’t tally on the web site, the war ended in 1856 so a 1851 construction date is impossible) and was the first hospitals for Muslims built in the city with the name of ‘Izmir Guraba-i Müslimin’.
