The fruit export trade, such as dried figs, apricots, raisins etc. of Smyrna was legendary over the centuries, all communities benefiting from the profits. These former ‘hans’ that served as the processing hans, often run by Levantines, now serve as shops, small-scale workshops, store-rooms etc.
