Andrea (1925-2000) and Josef (1921-2003) together with their parents Giovanni Caruana (1884-1950) and Emilia nee Beccherelli (1895-1973), all of whom were born in Constantinople. If you look closely you will note Andrea is holding a pictorial book in Turkish (the word ‘taksi’ is showing clearly).

Andrea’s paternal grandmother Theresa Caruana nee Galbo (1848-1926), married to Giuseppe Caruana (1831-1907) in Constantinople in 1866. Both grandparents were born in Malta.

Andrea’s maternal grandparents Andrea Beccherelli (1845-1924) and Maria Beccherelli (1875-1910). Both were born close to Florence, Italy (they carried the same surname because they were second cousins) but both got married and died in Constantinople. The two siblings in the photo are Andrea’s grandmother Emilia and his uncle Carlo (1898-?).
