Views of the
Aliotti garden at Boudjah as seen in 1926, the year of sale of the land after the burning down of the mansion. These famous gardens were created by Albert Aliotti, chief executive officer of the carpet giant O.C.M., brother of Barone Enrico Aliotti (1852-1912), and married first to Beatrice Spartali (her father was a partner of O.C.M.) and later to Jeanne Reiser. According to contributor Enrico Aliotti, ‘My father used to tell me about this beautiful garden which was considered also as a mini-zoo because of some exotic animals. Later on it was the main park of Buca.’ The land was bought by the Turkish merchant Hasan Ağa, who kept this plot for open use by the population of the village. |

The Aliotti family decorations from the past: 1. France (Second Empire) - Order of the Legion of Honour, 2. Italy (Kingdom) - Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, 3. Ottoman Empire - Order of Mejid (Mecidiye Nichani), Commander, 4. Tuscany - Order of Merit under the title of Saint Joseph, 5. Italy (Kingdom) - Order of the Crown of Italy. The reason why some of these medals were given are: All these signs of honour were conceded by the sovereigns for the services received: for instance (medal 4) Giuseppe Aliotti was consul of the Grand-Duchy of Tuscany in Izmir until the Italian Kingdom was formed in 1861. The Aliotti Family was ennobled on April 28, 1867 when the King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, gave to Antonio Aliotti the title of Baron. In the middle of the medal you can recognize the ‘baron’ crown. |
